By Ferd Berfel
We bought this model in August of last year (2011), so tomorrow the warranty regular warranty runs out. I already have an extended warranty from the dealer where I bought the range. The first problem we had with this range occurred about a week after installation. The cooktop grates started rusting. There were rust spots on all three grates. They were replaced within a week. However, two of the replacements had to be returned because of cracks along several of the grate bars. They were actually broken and had to be returned. The next problem occurred about a month ago in July when the right burner got stuck and wouldn't turn on. The authorized repair company had to order the part and we had to wait a week. In the meantime, we could still use the range. Yesterday the left burner valve wouldn't turn off after cooking food. I tried to jar it loose, then tried to turn the stem with a pliers, but it would NOT turn off at all. With gas shooting out the burner, I had to pull the range away from the wall and turn the main gas valve off, now rendering the entire range useless. The repair guy can't get out for another week, and then it'll take another week to order and get the parts. That means we can't cook for two more weeks.
I have the same problem as RJ of Cambridge with stains on the stainless steel. None of the stainless steel cleaners available seem to work.
This range has been a big disappointment, which is a shame because Kitchen Aid is supposed to have a good rep. I expect more problems in the future, so the extended warranty will come in handy.

We bought this because it looked nice, offered the double oven feature and was top rated on Consumer Reports. We bought ours from a small, independent locally owned appliance shop. We've had the range for nearly a year and have had no problems at all. The unit offers a nice feature in that you can easily lock the burners. This is a fantastic safety feature if you've young kids. I cook quite a lot and we have dinner parties every week or two, so it's been solidly broken in. We plan to buy exactly the same range when we move to another house this summer. I'm still experimenting with the convection baking feature offered in the lower oven, but haven't had any problems with it.

1We've had this stove for a month now and love its function and look. The burners and oven(s) work great and we look forward to using the included griddle. We look forward to using this stove for many years to come. We ran it at 500 degrees for 30 minutes and the new stove smell was gone. Great stove!
